Welcome
About Us
We desire to live in a close-knit and missional community, serving our community, finding healing for ourselves and for the people around us.
Hi all,
Small groups and prayer pockets will be starting the first week of October. There will be a Tuesday night study, a Wednesday night study, and most likely a Thursday afternoon study. Location and exact times TBA. We will be looking into the book of Ephesians together.
Prayer pockets (like pizza pockets but better for your health) will also be starting up soon. These are small pockets of people who will be gathering to pray for and with each other with a focus on living missionally. Locations and times will TBA.
Finally, the deadline to register for this event is in 2 days (oops) but there is a solidarity event planned for Oct 4 - 8 to raise awareness for those receiving social assistance and details are as follows:
As Thanksgiving approaches, we are mindful that many people in Hamilton live on social assistance and have very limited access to food. A person on social assistance receives about $585 per month. Carol Wood and Gary Warner (Director of Arts and Science), and others in the city ask you to join us in a solidarity effort to raise awareness about the need to put food in the budget for persons receiving social assistance.
We are seeking 50 Volunteers Needed to participate in the "Do the Math Challenge" Poverty Diet
FOOD is provided and may not be supplemented!
Your role:
· For the week of October 4-8, you will live on the limited food options faced by people on social assistance
· Talk about your experience with friends and classmates
· Participate in a reflection session on THURSDAY, October 7th at 10:30 am in TSH 719* (or submit a brief reflection)
· Consider contacting your MPP and ask for support for the Put the Food in the Budget demand
REGISTER for your free food box by WEDNESDAY, Sept 29th by emailing: _*chaplain@mcmaster.ca*_
Food will be picked up either Friday, Oct 1 or Monday Oct 4 at the OPIRG office - MUSC 229
This Solidarity Event is sponsored by: The Faculty of Social Sciences and the McMaster Community Poverty Initiative.
If you have questions, please contact Carol: woodcar@mcmaster.ca <mailto:woodcar@mcmaster.ca> or Loretta: chaplain@mcmaster.ca <mailto:chaplain@mcmaster.ca>
Hi friends,
Hope you have all had a wonderful summer! InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Mac is starting up again and there are a number of different ways to get involved this year.
There will be a discipleship group that meets up once a month. This is for anyone looking to learn together what it looks like to actively follow Jesus into uncomfortable and amazing places in our community at Mac. The first meeting will be a dessert night this Saturday, September 11 at 7pm, 129 Haddon Avenue South. This week we will talk about what this year will look like in terms of our InterVarsity community as well as how we can be focused on intentionally building relationships this semester with the people we encounter on campus and in our neighbourhoods. You will be challenged to take initiative in leadership within the community and step outside of your comfort zones. This will be a place to worship, pray, receive teaching, learn together, and invest deeply in community & people as well as have others invest in you. If you are interested in being a part of this group but have questions or can't make it to the first meeting please email Christine (cwu@ivcf.ca).
Small groups/scripture study will be starting up in a couple of weeks. TBA.
Prayer pockets (like pizza pockets, but better for you) will also be starting up soon.
There will be a discussion group on Sept 15 at 5:30pm in MUSC 230 for anyone interested in exploring what Jesus would do and what we might do together on issues of social justice. RSVP on facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Social-Justice-at-Mac/151128751582401
If ever you have a question (or two, or three, or just want to chat), email Christine (cwu@ivcf.ca) and she will have coffee and/or other delicious things with you.

This year, we as a MacVCF community would like to put into action what we are learning in our small group bible studies, and support RIDE FOR REFUGEES.
We want to invite you to participate in this event by either signing up as a team member, or contributing to our team financially--any donation is appreciated.
Its a bike-a-thon, with the following distances:
10 km (all on rail trail)
25 km (half on rail trail, half on road)
50 km (all on road)
100 km (all on road)
Website: www.rideforrefugees.com
The money is allocated as follows:
50% of what each team earns goes to a refugee organization of their choice.
50% goes to other costs: 10-15% goes to the event cost, the rest goes to pre-designated refugee organizations over the world.
Mac VCF Team Website: http://my.e2rm.com/TeamPage.aspx?teamID=95737&LangPref=en-CA
So, why are we doing this, you ask? Have a gander...
As a community of Christian students at McMaster University, we see that Ride for Refugees is a way for us to put into action what we are learning in our small group bible studies. When Jesus taught in his hometown of Nazareth, he quoted Isaiah 61, saying that God had anointed him to proclaim release to captives, recovery of sight to the blind, to bind up the broken-hearted, and to preach good news to the poor. As we serve Jesus, we believe that serving the poor and displaced is one way we can follow Jesus. Ride for Refugees is a great way for us to put our faith into action, showing our love for God as we serve those he loves.
(Taken from our Team Page)
Please support the cause if you can. And if you are able to sign up as part of the team to ride, that'd be awesome as well!

MacVCF/BCF Winter Retreat:
It's not too late to sign up for the retreat! You can hand in your permission forms and money ($85) to your small group leaders this week. Also, you can drop it off from 11:30-12:30 on Wednesday in the fishbowl looking room in the Clubspace. Someone will be there to collect everything. The retreat is THIS WEEKEND. We'll meet at 5:30pm with all your stuff @ Div College Parking lot.
And now, a list of things to bring:
- pillow
- sleeping bag
- materials for manuscript study (pen, pencils, coloured pencils, markers)
- Bible
- notebook for taking notes
- towel
- toiletries
- warm clothes
- indoor shoes/slippers
- health card
In the main meeting hall, the heating is not perfect. The front of the room can be very hot and the back very cold. The solution: wear layers!
Again, if cost is an issue, PLEASE speak to Melody (mellychookado[at]hotmail.com). We can definitely work something out.
Hi everyone! Welcome back... we hope you all had a very fun and relaxing break and are ready to get back into the swing of things with school starting once again. Here are a couple things that we've got coming of @ MacVCF...
Welcome Back Party
We'll be having a welcome back party this Saturday the 12th @ Alan and Andrew's House (27 Hollywood St. S) 6:00pm. It'll be pretty low key with some good food and games as a way to welcome everyone back and see how the holidays were. If you could bring some kind of appetizer that would be great. And feel free to be creative with it and bring something interesting! Interesting is always good... Anyone is welcome, so feel free to invite friends as well. Hope to see you all there!
